Partnership agreements were signed between Sharkovshchina District and Aizkraukle Municipality, Verkhnedvinsk District and Dagda Municipality, Gorodok District and Amata Municipality, Glubokoye District and Incukalns Municipality. Apart from that, the intent of expanding cooperation was documented by the heads of the sport and tourism department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee and the Latvian Office of Euroregion "Country of Lakes", the Vitebsk Oblast Union of Employers and the Daugavpils Club of Entrepreneurs and Business People Anchor, the Vitebsk Oblast Marketing Center and the Society for Promotion of Latvian-Belarusian Economic Relations, Vitebsk State Technological University and Daugavpils University. Vitebsk is hosting the Belarus-Latvia Business Forum. A special status of this economic event was emphasized by Vitebsk Oblast Governor Nikolai Sherstnev.
“The event gives an opportunity to towns and districts of Vitebsk Oblast, state-run and private companies to meet and discuss cooperation prospects, forge new contacts with partners from Latvian regions,” the governor said.
The governor thanked diplomats of the Latvian Embassy and the Consulate for bringing a great number of Latvian delegates to the forum. Taking part in the event were local self-governance delegations from 21 Latvian regions as well as 34 business delegations representing a great number of economic sectors, like transport, logistics, wood processing, manufacturing, textile industry and tourism.
