The closest attention is currently turned to Vitebsk Oblast in Belarus amid the COVID-19 outbreak, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova told the media ahead of her meeting with the region's medical workers on 16 April.

According to the speaker of the upper house of the parliament, issues related to the provision of medicals workers with everything necessary remain relevant for every region of the country. Everything is done in the country to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

“Vitebsk Oblast is given a top priority. The virus has spread more here than in other regions and oblast centers. All measures to provide personal protective gear, medicines, protection of medical workers, on whom a lot depends today, are taken. These tasks have been set forth by the president,” Natalya Kochanova said.

The chairwoman of the Council of the Republic stressed the importance of her meeting with frontline medical workers. “It is important to speak honestly in order to learn first-hand what problems there are, what issues need to be addressed and what assistance should be provided to stabilize the situation. At the end of the meeting we will see what should be done. We hope that the situation will improve both in Vitebsk Oblast and Minsk in the near future,” said Natalya Kochanova.
