Belarusian Vitebsktorf to massively increase peat export by 2025

26.12.2022 The Vitebsktorf branch of the Vitebsk Oblast natural gas provider Vitebskoblgaz intends to increase the export of peat products by 1.5 times by 2025. The figure was mentioned when Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich and Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Aleksandr Subbotin visited Vitebsktorf's peat manufacturing facility in the town of Obol on 26 December. The facility celebrated the 100th anniversary since its foundation, the Energy Ministry press service told BelTA.

Thanks to massive retooling Vitebsktorf managed to modernize the plant and equipment of its peat manufacturing enterprises. Outdated equipment was replaced. The fleet of peat-extracting vehicles was expanded. The area of peat fields was nearly doubled, Viktor Karankevich said.

With Vitebskoblgaz assistance the division commissioned a new peat separation line in Obol. It allowed automating manufacturing processes, expanding the choice of manufactured products, and improving its quality. The products Vitebsktorf makes sell well in Belarus and abroad. The division intends to increase the export of peat products by 1.5 times by 2025, the energy minister stressed.

Vitebskoblgaz Director General Aleksandr Brantsevich added that in view of external circumstances Vitebsktorf had taken comprehensive measures to diversify the geography of sales. The export of peat products was close to $3.8 million. Shipments to Russia doubled, he stated. Peat was also shipped to Türkiye and other countries. Export promotion efforts will continue.

Aleksandr Subbotin also mentioned effective introduction of new technologies and the expansion of the product lineup in Vitebsktorf. “I am glad to see that an entire lineup of peat machines has been developed here and the products, which are made, are sold in Belarus and abroad,” the Vitebsk Oblast governor said.

The 200,000th big bale package of pressed peat was solemnly made in Obol on 26 December.
