Israeli diplomat on WW2: This should never happen again

27.01.2023  The main lesson that today's generations should learn from the Second World War is to do everything so that this will never happen again, Chargé d'Affaires of the State of Israel in the Republic of Belarus Tzevy Hirsh Mirkin said at the event dedicated to the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust in Vitebsk on 27 January.

The main reason for Tzevy Hirsh Mirkin's visit to Vitebsk was to hand over a medal and a diploma of the Righteous Among the Nations to Darya Krasikova's relatives. Holocaust survivors are still looking for their saviors to thank them for their help and courage. “The search continues as we still do not know the names of all, unfortunately. The woman who deserved the Righteous Among the Nations title is no longer alive, but her family received a medal and a diploma. The idea behind this award is very simple - the Jewish people, those who survived the Holocaust and the descendants of survivors want to thank those who helped Jews despite the risk to their life,” said Tzevy Hirsh Mirkin. He added that more than 700 Belarusians received the title of the Righteous Among the Nations. All in all, 30,000 people from various countries received this title.

“The main lesson that all of us should learn from the Second World War is that we should do everything to prevent such events from happening again,” the Israeli diplomat emphasized.
