17 talented doctors from the northern region competed for the title of best young specialist
As part of the regional professional skills competition among young specialists of healthcare organizations of the Vitebsk region, novice doctors demonstrated their knowledge, practical skills, and creative potential.
The competition program consisted of several rounds, including a blitz quiz on medical facts, assessment of practical skills using simulation equipment, and specialized tasks such as tying surgical knots, identifying instruments, and solving complex clinical problems.
In addition to professional challenges, participants also presented video clips on the theme "Why My Profession is the Best" and showcased their talents in the creative competition "To Work. To Create. To Love the Motherland."
– Today you will demonstrate your practical skills in a simulation environment. We have prepared four stations with various tasks aimed at assessing your readiness for the real challenges of the profession. At the first station, you will face the differential diagnosis of a disease in a critically ill patient. The second is related to the interpretation of chest X-ray results. At the third point, you need to recall the rules of emergency medical care for internal organ diseases. The fourth stage includes a clinical situation related to the transfusion of donor blood and its components. You have 5 minutes to complete each station. Remember that the main thing in our profession is not only deep knowledge and honed skills but also the ability to make quick decisions and remain calm in stressful situations, – addressed the participants Viktor Rednenko, Head of the Simulation and Attestation Center of VGMU, Associate Professor.
Anna Efimova, a psychiatrist-narcologist at the Regional Clinical Center for Psychiatry and Narcology, believes that such events not only enhance professional skills but also facilitate the exchange of experience among young specialists from different parts of the northern region.
– When I was offered to participate in the competition at work, I agreed without hesitation. For me, this is a great opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, practice in conditions as close to real as possible, and test how quickly I can make important decisions. I am sure that each of us will gain valuable experience that will stimulate further development, – said Anna Efimova.
For Maria Grigoryeva, an ultrasound diagnostics doctor at the Polotsk Central City Hospital, medicine has always come first.
– I decided to dedicate my life to medicine because I consider it my calling. I am the first doctor in my family and I am very proud of it. Today, I was able to immerse myself in the atmosphere of student life, honing my practical skills on mannequins with my classmates. It's great that tasks in various medical fields were prepared for us contestants. Everyone was able to fully express themselves in their specialization. I enjoyed the task related to laboratory diagnostics. I encountered difficulties with reading an X-ray, as it is not my specialty. I feel I coped well with all the tasks. I believe that there should be competition in medicine. Without it, there will be no growth, – emphasized Maria Grigoryeva.
The competition program concluded with a festive event at the Regional Clinical Hospital. There, young specialists were met with a 15-question quiz on medical topics and an unforgettable concert program.
Based on the results of the trials, a competent jury selected winners in three nominations: "Best Young Specialist in Surgery," "Best Young Specialist in Pediatrics," and "Best Young Specialist in Internal Medicine."
