2 years of imprisonment for public insult of the Head of State

The Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office supported the state prosecution against a 27-year-old resident of Vitebsk district, who is accused of publicly insulting the President of the Republic of Belarus.

During the court investigation, it was established that on the evening of April 25, 2023, the accused was drinking alcoholic beverages at his place of residence. In the process, he caused a family scandal, due to which his sister called employees of the internal affairs bodies of the Vitebsk District Executive Committee. In the presence of these persons, the man uttered insults against the Head of State using profanity.

The accused fully admitted his guilt.

Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court of Vitebsk district rendered a guilty verdict. Based on Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the man was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment with serving the sentence in a correctional colony under a general regime.

The verdict has not entered into legal force and may be appealed and protested in appellate order.
