Alexander Subbotin responded to comments from residents of the regional center, which they left under news about the reconstruction of Victory Square

Александр Субботин ответил на комментарии жителей областного центра, которые те оставляли под новостями о реконструкции площади Победы
It is being renovated for the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia and the 80th anniversary of the country's liberation from the Nazi invaders. There is another pleasant occasion - Vitebsk celebrates its 1050th anniversary in 2024. Most commentators, as Alexander Subbotin noted, welcomed the news of the reconstruction with joy. But there were also those who advised "to give the spent money to the people" and were outraged by what was happening.

- We want to decorate the square. It's impossible to restore the old square because a lot has already been done there, a lot of concrete has been poured. You can't plant a park there, of course, but we made a decision: there will be fountains not with a basin in the traditional sense, but emerging from the ground, which can be turned off to flood the square for an ice rink or to hold some concert or rally. And in the heat, these fountains will bring joy to children and refresh the area, - said the head of the region.

The flat fountain with lighting will include 118 nozzles (jets). This is exactly how many residents, during the liberation of Vitebsk after the Great Patriotic War, met the victors here. The cost of the project is about $1 million.
"This is the minimum that can be. We replaced the letters, two screens. They were already quite worn out and made with old technologies. Therefore, we are now updating these screens, we will install slightly larger ones, they will be more reliable".
A new sound system will also appear in the square. Now, anyone in any corner of the square will be able to hear performers at concerts, rallies, and other events.
