A tribute to the victims of the crime of genocide, honoring their dignity and preventing this crime

Vitebsk transport prosecutor Konstantin Shienok, on the eve of the International Day of Commemoration of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide, honoring their dignity and preventing this crime, held a meeting with students of the Orsha College-Branch of the Educational Institution "Belarusian State University of Transport", which took place at the Military-Historical Museum named after Hero of the Soviet Union K.S. Zaslonov.

"Every year on December 9, we pay tribute to the victims of the crime of genocide. Remembering the terrible examples from the past is one of the most important conditions for preventing genocide in the future," noted Konstantin Shienok.

In the Republic of Belarus, in 2022, in order to preserve the memory of millions of Soviet citizens who became victims during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period, the Law "On the Genocide of the Belarusian People" was adopted. This law is aimed at legislative support for the protection of the fundamental values of the Belarusian people, establishing effective barriers against attempts to falsify the events and outcomes of World War II, and giving a fair assessment of the atrocities of Nazi criminals and their accomplices, and nationalist formations during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period.

The Vitebsk transport prosecutor emphasized that the investigation of the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people has been ongoing for more than 2 years, during which new facts of horrific Nazi crimes on Belarusian soil are being uncovered.

Up-to-date information on the progress of the investigation, as well as materials from the criminal case (testimonies of witnesses and eyewitnesses, archival documents), are published on the official website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus in the section "Investigation of the Criminal Case on Genocide".
