Roads of War: Patriotic Motor Rally United Vitebsk Region

A solemn rally and the event "Disna Frontier – Frontier of Valor" opened the program of the motor rally "Roads of War – Roads of Victory" along the battle glory sites of Miory and Polotsk districts.
The patriotic action, held on the eve of Independence Day, is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the heroic defense of the Disna frontier. Representatives of government bodies, work collectives, public organizations, regional universities, and youth gathered at the memorial complex with the same name.
– Today we stand under a sunny sky, and 85 years ago, bloody battles were fought on this spot, which temporarily halted the invasion of the brown plague on our Motherland. The heroes of those times succeeded, – noted the Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexey Guida.
He emphasized that the motor rally is being held thanks to the patriot and enthusiast Eduard Tereshko, and called on compatriots to emulate such people and fully support similar initiatives. Addressing the youth, Alexey Guida also urged young men and women to "continue the great cause." After all, only joint efforts will help prevent the repetition of mistakes that have occurred in history.
– The history of the Belarusian land holds many tragic and heroic pages. The events of the Great Patriotic War resonate as an unhealed wound in the hearts of all generations of Belarusians. Here, on our land, the fascist invaders, having traversed half of Europe, first encountered the fiercest and most brutal resistance and suffered the greatest losses. Here, in the occupied territories, driven by revenge, they dealt with the civilian population with particular ruthlessness: women, the elderly, children. Crushed and embittered, they fled, leaving behind scorched earth. 85 years have passed since the heroic defense of the Disna рубеж and the feat of the soldiers of the Polotsk fortified region. In the first days of July, on the strip of the Polotsk fortified region, German troops began a general offensive. Despite numerical superiority, massive shelling, and fierce attacks, the occupiers failed to break the resistance of the defenders, – reminded the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Dmitry Demidov. – Eight and a half decades later, standing on the site of bloody battles, we pay tribute to the courageous generation of defenders of the Fatherland, who, at the cost of their lives, gave us the opportunity to create, work, and raise children and grandchildren under a peaceful sky.
The head of the region's deputy corps added that thanks to the strong position of the country's leadership, Belarus has the status of a strong and independent state, has become an island of security and peace-loving policy, where citizens have confidence in the future. And the people who live here are united by loyalty to traditions and a sincere desire to make their small homeland and the republic as a whole stronger and more beautiful.
The route of the motor rally runs through the settlements of Miory and Polotsk districts, places of military glory, memorial complexes – territories that became arenas of fierce battles during the Great Patriotic War. The convoy will make stops in the urban settlement of Vetrino, at a pillbox near it, at the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, where they will learn about its activities, as well as at a pillbox near the village of Kutnyany. After visiting the Mound of Immortality in the oldest city of the country, Polotsk, and other places of memory and sorrow, the participants of the motor rally will proceed to the memorial sign "Death to Fascism".
