Voice of the Generation of Victors: A Time Capsule with a Message from Veterans to Descendants Was Laid in Vitebsk

As part of the republican military-patriotic event "Letters to Descendants. Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Great Victory," a solemn ceremony of laying a time capsule for eternal storage took place at the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union M. F. Shmyryov. It contains letters from Belarusian veterans of the Great Patriotic War addressed to future generations.
The capsule is to be opened in 2045, when our people will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Today's young men and women, as well as young people of the future, will open it.
The initiator of this deeply symbolic event was the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus.
Representatives of the military department of our country and the Vitebsk Regional Military Commissariat, public associations, internationalist soldiers and veterans of the Armed Forces, former underage prisoners of fascism, museum staff, and students from military-patriotic classes and clubs took part in the capsule-laying ceremony.
– This is a testament to future generations, – noted Colonel Sergey Shokhov, senior officer of the information department of the main department of ideological work of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus. – The capsule contains not just letters on paper. It is the faith of our dear veterans that the Belarusian land, for which the defenders of the Motherland shed blood, will always flourish under a peaceful sky.
The director of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union M. F. Shmyrev solemnly accepted the capsule for eternal storage.
– This is a great honor for the museum staff, – emphasized Irina Shishkova. – We guarantee that on May 9, 2045, on the 100th anniversary of the Great Victory, the capsule will be opened in a solemn ceremony. And the voice of the generation of victors will be heard by those who will live on the Belarusian land in the future.
The time capsule has taken its honorable place among the exhibits in the memorial hall dedicated to Minay Filippovich Shmyrev.
Vitebsk became the first Belarusian city to host the republican event "Letters to Descendants. Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Great Victory." In the near future, similar solemn ceremonies for laying a time capsule will be held in all regional centers of the country.
