Regional Agricultural Production: Vitebsk Region Plans to Sow Agricultural Crops on Almost 790 Thousand Hectares

This year, farmers in the Vitebsk region intend to sow 786 thousand hectares with agricultural crops, reported Valery Nerozya, Head of the Department of Land Cultivation, Crop Production, and Fodder Production of the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee.

Currently, farmers in the northern region are preparing for sowing, and machinery has already begun soil preparation. Large-scale agricultural work in the districts of the Vitebsk region will commence with the establishment of consistently warm weather, as a full spring is currently delayed.

"This year, the total sown area of agricultural crops will be 786 thousand hectares. For grains and legumes, 354.7 thousand hectares are allocated, for corn - 100 thousand hectares, for cruciferous crops - 93.4 thousand hectares, and flax will occupy about 12 thousand hectares. For grain corn, 20 thousand hectares will be used, the rest will go for silage," noted Valery Nerozya. This year, buckwheat sowing areas will be increased to 1.2 thousand hectares.

The head of the department added that winter crops have passed the winter period quite well. Crop damage is expected to be around 5%.
