Regional Agricultural Production: The task of Vitebsk region agrarians is to promptly carry out the sowing campaign

The technical capabilities of Vitebsk region agrarians allow for the sowing campaign to be completed in two weeks. However, the prolonged spring is currently preventing them from matching last year's pace.

According to Sergey Egorov, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Committee, approximately 6,000 units of equipment will be involved in the spring field work, including 1,200 high-power units. Over 600 machine operators from cities and district centers, as well as more than 270 students from specialized educational institutions, will assist the rural workers. Currently, all types of spring field work are underway in the fields of Vitebsk region: plowing, sowing spring grains, hauling and applying organic fertilizers, and top-dressing winter crops. It is worth noting that for the 2021 harvest, 212,000 hectares of grains and 65,000 hectares of cruciferous crops were sown last autumn. Specialists assess the wintering conditions as good.

The upcoming tasks include sowing 152,000 hectares of grains and legumes, 35,000 hectares of rapeseed, 12,000 hectares of flax, and 100,000 hectares of corn (20,000 hectares traditionally for grain). Farms are 100% provided with seeds for grains and legumes. Specialist groups have been formed to provide practical assistance to agricultural enterprises and to monitor technological processes. Machine operators are awaiting the start of mass sowing. This is a good opportunity to earn money, and for exceeding production norms, each hectare is paid at a double rate.
