Committee for Economy: Br2.5 billion in investments attracted to the economy of the Vitebsk region over the year

Br2.5 billion of investments were attracted to the economy of the Vitebsk region over the year. This was reported by Veronika Zabolueva, Chairperson of the Economics Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

Last year, the economy of the northern region, like the entire country, operated under restrictive measures and economic sanctions imposed by unfriendly countries. To support enterprises under sanctions pressure, the state provided them with preferential loans to replenish their working capital and deferred budget payments. Under Decree No. 534, export loans totaling Br83 million were obtained. Despite all the difficulties in the economy, the region managed to cope with many tasks.

"Br2.5 billion of investments were attracted to the economy of the region in 2022. The investment portfolio formed for last year included about 120 projects. A little more than half were successfully implemented, and there were objective reasons for this. A number of large projects in woodworking were suspended - these are "VMG", "Akitama", a rather large sum - about Br140 million. Projects in the energy sector were not implemented, as foreign credit lines were envisaged. At the same time, we managed to implement a lot. Last year, a slaughter and processing workshop for pigs and cattle was commissioned at the Orsha Meat Canning Plant, a pig breeding complex in the Liozno district, and a slaughter line at a broiler poultry farm. New production was created at the "Vetraź" plant, and a production workshop was commissioned at "KimaBel," noted Veronika Zabolueva.

Funds for the implementation of projects within the state, regional, and local investment programs, including additional funding, were allocated on time. This refers to Br431 million, which have been fully utilized. Among the major infrastructure projects completed in the Vitebsk region last year are the construction of a 166-bed dormitory at the "Zhemchuzhina" children's rehabilitation and health resort center in Borovka, Lepel district; a swimming pool as part of the reconstruction of the district physical culture and health center building in Glubokoye; two hotels with 85 beds in the Orsha district; and the reconstruction of the bridge over the Western Dvina River in Novopolotsk.

Today, a meeting is being held at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, where issues of investment activities in the districts are being considered, among others.
