State Property Committee: Carmelite Monastery in Glubokoye put up for auction at a base rate

The Carmelite Monastery in Grybokaye, an architectural monument of the 18th century, where Napoleon Bonaparte stayed on his way to Moscow, is proposed by the committee for sale at auction on May 16 with a starting price equal to one base value.

The residential building of the monastery along with the church was built in 1735. Later, a boarding school, library, hospital, pharmacy, and a complex of service and storage facilities functioned at the monastery.

The monastery was closed in 1865. The church at the monastery has been operating as the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God since 1875. Only one wing has survived from the residential building; the other two were dismantled in 1892.

The monastery building, which is one of the points on the tourist route in Grybokaye, has been empty for the last half century and is currently in a dilapidated state. However, local authorities hope to find a new owner and restore the building.

It should also be noted that 12 auctions for properties located in the Hlybokaye district are scheduled for the end of May, with 11 of them being for a base value. Among them are a bank branch, a cultural and sports center, a club, a house of culture, kindergartens, and schools.
