Committee for Agriculture and Food: Farmers in the Vitebsk region are completing the sowing of corn, annual grasses, and late spring grains

Agrarians of the Vitebsk region are completing the sowing of corn, annual grasses and late spring cereals - buckwheat and millet, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee reported.

As of the morning of May 26, 99.5 thousand hectares of corn have been sown in the region (20 thousand hectares more than in 2019), or 83% of the plan. This work has been practically completed in Dokshitsky, Tolochinsky and Chashniksky districts. The region plans to complete the sowing of this crop by the end of May. The area of sown annual grasses is 22.4 thousand hectares (85.6% of the plan), buckwheat - 263 hectares (86.7%). Sowing of millet for grain in the northern region this year reached 1.8 thousand hectares, which is 4.5 times higher than the target of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and is due to a rational approach to the use of arable land.

According to specialists, this week the rural workers of the region began to prepare feed. Farms in Dubrovensky, Tolochinsky, Sharkovshchinsky and Vitebsky districts were the first to join this work. So far, mainly the harvesting of rapeseed for silage and row crops in polymer packaging is underway. A set of care works is also being carried out: chemical weeding of spring cereals, cruciferous crops, corn and flax, as well as measures to combat pests and plant diseases.
