Committee for Agriculture and Food: Vitebsk region has harvested over 384 thousand tons of haylage from the first mowing

In the Vitebsk region, over 384 thousand tons of green fodder have been harvested during the first cutting, as reported by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee.

The first cutting of perennial grasses is ongoing in most districts of the Vitebsk region. As of July 7, grasses have been mown on 190.5 thousand hectares, which is 91% of the planned target. The total area to be mown for the fodder harvesting period is 210 thousand hectares of sown grasses.

Verkhnedvinsk, Vitebsk, Gluboksky, Orsha, Tolochin, and Postavy districts have completed the first stage of the green harvest. They will soon be ready to start the second cutting. Other districts continue to harvest perennial grasses to replenish the fodder reserves of farms.

Over 384 thousand tons of green fodder for cattle have been harvested. Calculated per conventional head of cattle, the average indicator for the region is 9.33 centners of fodder units. Verkhnedvinsk, Dubrovno, Liozno, Orsha, Polotsk, Postavy, and Tolochin districts have exceeded the regional average in fodder harvesting. Here, more than 10 centners of fodder units per conventional head of cattle have been harvested.

All green fodder will be used for silage. Partly due to favorable weather conditions, over 70 thousand tons of hay have been harvested during the past period (in 2020, 58 thousand tons were harvested during the same period). Currently, 24 thousand tons of silage have been harvested. Its volume will be supplemented by corn, which will be harvested after the crop ripens.
