Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection: 1.3 thousand people are registered as unemployed in the Vitebsk region

As of September 1, 2021, 1.3 thousand unemployed people were registered in the Vitebsk region, which is 20 percent less than on September 1, 2020 (1.6 thousand people).

The number of registered unemployed decreased in 19 districts of the region, in the cities of Vitebsk and Novopolotsk, and remained unchanged in the Liozno district. The number of registered unemployed slightly increased (by 1 to 7 people) in 3 districts of the region.

The registered unemployment rate as of September 1, 2021, was 0.3 percent and remained unchanged compared to September 1, 2020.

A decrease in the registered unemployment rate was noted in 11 districts, in the cities of Vitebsk and Novopolotsk; the unemployment rate remained unchanged in 10 districts and slightly increased in 2 districts. In all districts and cities, the registered unemployment rate does not exceed the maximum permissible value.

In January – August 2021, 14.6 thousand people applied to the employment service for employment assistance (1.7 percent less than in January – September 2020), of which 6.5 thousand people were registered as unemployed (7.7 percent less).

Within the framework of the State Program "Labor Market and Employment Promotion" for 2021 – 2025, in January – August 2021:

·                  11.5 thousand people were employed in permanent jobs;

·                  334 people were sent for training in professions in demand on the labor market;

·                  69 unemployed people received subsidies to start their own business;

·                  2034 people participated in paid public works;

·                  temporary employment was provided to 3830 people from among students in their free time;

·                  employed in order to gain practical work experience

18 unemployed;

·                  adaptation to labor activities was organized for 38 disabled persons;

·                  25 families of unemployed persons were relocated to a new place of residence and work.

The employment rate of citizens who applied for assistance was 70.4 percent (with a target for January – September 2021 – 60 percent), which is 3.7 percentage points higher than in January – September 2020.

As of September 1, 2021, employers reported 8.9 thousand vacancies, which is 30.6 percent more than on September 1, 2020 (6.8 thousand) and 38.2 percent more than on January 1, 2021 (6.4 thousand). 

The most in-demand professions among employers are: seamstress, car driver, controller-cashier, conductor, cook, salesperson, repair fitter, auto mechanic, CNC machine operator. Among specialists and employees, there is a constant demand for accountants, engineers, nurses, doctors. In rural areas, tractor drivers, milking machine operators, livestock breeders, veterinarians, agronomists, and paramedics are in demand.
