Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection: about 90 barrier-free environment facilities will be equipped in the Vitebsk region by the end of the year

Of this number, 69 facilities relate to social infrastructure. These include administrative buildings, cultural, healthcare, and social service institutions (boarding schools, territorial centers for social services for the population), consumer services, trade facilities, and housing stock. "For the most part, this involves supplementing the missing links of the barrier-free environment where they are currently lacking, so that everything corresponds to a comprehensive approach in creating an accessible environment for people with disabilities and those with reduced health. Tactile tiles, voice informers, signs duplicating names in Braille for visually impaired and blind people, contrasting markings on doors and door handles, and other elements will appear at various facilities," the regional committee noted.

This year, 20 facilities of the street and road network and transport infrastructure will be re-equipped. Curbs will be lowered at pedestrian crossings, tactile tiles will be laid on ramps, traffic lights with audible signals will be installed for the visually impaired and blind, and sidewalks will be supplemented with guiding tactile tiles.

"One of the largest facilities will be the bus station in Glubokoye. After equipping it with a comprehensive barrier-free environment, it will feature restrooms for people with disabilities, voice informers at ticket offices, terminals, and boarding platforms, and signs with Braille duplicating essential passenger information. Parking spaces for people with disabilities will also be equipped in the adjacent parking lot," the regional committee explained.

Additionally, in four public transport stops in settlements of the region, on routes most frequently used by people with disabilities, barrier-free environment elements will be added – lowered curbs and tactile tiles.
