Vitebskoblimushchestvo Committee: An investor from New Zealand plans to organize whiskey production from quinoa seeds in the Gorodok district

The buildings of the former orphanage in the urban-type settlement of Ezerishche, Gorodok District, were put up for auction by the Vitebsk Regional Property Committee for the 6th time and were eventually sold on May 17 at an auction for the base price to a foreign investor from New Zealand.

This buyer already acquired a training building in Gorodok in April, also for the base price, where he plans to organize the cultivation and packaging of a new crop for Belarus – quinoa. Next year, he plans to sow about 500 hectares, and within the next 5 years – about 2-3 thousand hectares, aiming to capture an 18% share of the global quinoa seed production market.

Based on the former orphanage, the investor plans to establish a unique whiskey production facility from quinoa seeds within the next two years. Currently, there are only two similar plants – in the USA and Australia.

It is also planned to create an office building resembling an old mansion he saw in England, and to open a mini-hotel for tourists – a picturesque lake is located nearby.
