Coordination yields results
In particular, at the regional level, practical issues of interaction between local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and public associations were considered during the implementation of individual crime prevention measures, the enforcement of legislation by criminal prosecution bodies when considering applications and reports, the investigation of criminal cases of missing persons, increasing the effectiveness of measures taken by law enforcement and other state bodies to combat corruption, and improving the interaction of state bodies in implementing measures aimed at combating illicit drug trafficking and the social rehabilitation of drug addicts.
Also, prosecutors of cities and districts, and the Vitebsk transport prosecutor, focused on developing measures at coordination meetings to combat crime and corruption, ensure public order, and prevent crimes and other offenses.
In addition, prosecutors held 64 interdepartmental meetings, which often addressed issues of interaction between law enforcement agencies and topical issues related to ensuring legality and law and order.
For example, the regional prosecutor's office, at interdepartmental meetings, considered the reasons for presenting a new indictment in court, suspending criminal proceedings to obtain new evidence, issues of enforcing legislation on citizens' and legal entities' appeals to local authorities and internal affairs bodies, compliance with legality during the investigation of criminal cases where the accused have evaded the criminal prosecution body, and enforcement of legislation on their search and the search for persons evading punishment or other criminal liability measures.

In particular, in the past year, such events were held to identify and suppress offenses in the agro-industrial complex of the region, especially during the period of mass field work.
Special attention was paid to the organization and conduct of joint events to fulfill the instructions of the Head of State concerning control over the legality and effective use of state funds, the implementation of state and republican programs, and investment projects.
The regional prosecutor's office also organized and, jointly with other law enforcement agencies, conducted targeted inspections of the activities of prevention entities to prevent crimes and other offenses. In the past year, such inspections were carried out in Dokshitsky, Verkhnedvinsky, Gluboksky, and Lepelsky districts.
Within the framework of coordination activities, prosecutors used other organizational and legal measures for supervision and control in the sphere of combating crime and corruption.
Information memoranda on the state of legality and public safety in the regions were regularly sent to executive authorities. At the initiative of prosecutors, issues of strengthening law and order were repeatedly considered at meetings of the regional executive committee and local government bodies.
Thanks to a comprehensive approach to the use of legal means, a stable operational situation has been ensured in the Vitebsk region.
In 2017, the number of registered crimes in the region decreased by 5.0%. The number of registered murders with attempts, hooligan manifestations, robberies, and property thefts decreased. A decrease in crime is noted among youth. Fewer crimes were committed by persons with a criminal record, while intoxicated, by a group of persons, and in public places. At the same time, the number of recorded corruption offenses increased.
