Coordination meeting as an effective toolkit in the fight against crime in the region

The prosecutor's offices of the region took concrete measures in the past year aimed at strengthening legality and law and order, ensuring public safety and discipline. Special attention was paid to the prevention of crimes and other offenses, the fight against corruption and economic crime, and the protection of social rights and interests of citizens, including minors.

In order to coordinate actions to ensure legality and law and order, prevent, detect, and suppress crimes, including those of a corruption nature, prosecutors organized over 90 coordination meetings.

In particular, at the regional level, issues were considered regarding improving the effectiveness of various departments in preventing drunkenness, alcoholism, and drug addiction, crimes and other offenses committed by minors on this basis, preventing crimes and offenses that infringe on the life and health of citizens, including in the sphere of family and domestic relations, as well as crimes against sexual integrity committed against minors, identifying children in extreme life situations who have become victims of crimes, cruelty, and violence. In addition, the quality of the investigation of criminal cases involving crimes committed by foreign citizens by the investigative units of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk region, and the effectiveness of measures taken by law enforcement and other state bodies to combat corruption and eliminate the causes and conditions conducive to corruption manifestations were discussed.

Also, prosecutors of cities and districts, and the Vitebsk transport prosecutor, focused on developing measures at coordination meetings to combat crime and corruption, ensure public order, and prevent crimes and other offenses.

In addition, prosecutors at interdepartmental meetings considered issues of interaction between law enforcement agencies and topical issues related to ensuring legality and law and order.

Thus, the regional prosecutor's office, at an interdepartmental meeting, reviewed the practice of courts applying Articles 77, 78 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the control and preventive supervision over convicts under the specified articles carried out by the penal inspection units and juvenile affairs inspectorates of territorial internal affairs bodies.

As part of coordinating activities, prosecutors constantly informed representative and executive authorities about the state of legality and public safety in the regions. At the initiative of prosecutors, issues of strengthening law and order were repeatedly considered at meetings of the regional executive committee and local government bodies.

Thanks to a comprehensive approach to the use of organizational and practical measures, a stable operational situation has been ensured in the Vitebsk region.

Last year, there was a decrease in registered cases of intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, robbery, hooliganism, theft, and attempted rape. The number of crimes committed by persons with a criminal record in public places has decreased. At the same time, the number of recorded corruption offenses has increased.
