Our Belarus
Many are familiar with popular cultural heritage sites, exotic resorts of far and near abroad. But have we discovered all the beautiful places in our native land?
One of them is the republican landscape reserve "Yelnya" – a unique object of the protected areas fund of Belarus, located in the Miory and Sharkovshchyna districts, occupying an area of over 25 thousand hectares.
This is the largest lake-bog complex in Belarus and one of the largest in Europe, which is a monument of the distant Ice Age, has the status of a wetland of international importance, and is a key ornithological and botanical territory. It contains over 100 lakes, rare species of plants and animals (some of which are listed in the Red Book of Belarus) are preserved, and large peat deposits have formed here. In season, tons of cranberries and lingonberries are harvested in the bog. During migration, thousands of cranes stop here for almost a month on their way to winter in Africa.
The tourist popularity of these places is facilitated, among other things, by the annual festival "Cranes and Cranberries of the Miory Region". To make it more convenient to admire the changing colors of the bog in different seasons and weather, enjoy birdsong, and feel the aroma of bog herbs and shrubs, an ecological trail "Ozeravki" has been equipped in "Yelnya". It is constructed from wooden boardwalks, extends for 1.5 km, and ends at the edge of the bog lakes, offering stunning views. The chairman of the trade union committee of the primary trade union organization of the Vitebsk region prosecutor's office enjoyed them in early summer, having visited this unforgettable place (not for the first time), having completed the eco-trail route, breathing in the purest air of his native land with all his lungs.
And have you visited one of the best places for health and impressions yet?
