Restoring order together: how the republican subbotnik took place in the Vitebsk region
Today, the Vitebsk region joined the republican субботник (volunteer clean-up day).
The plan includes landscaping, improvement, and tidying up of: objects and territories of settlements, parks, forests, sports grounds, landmark sites, historical and cultural values, memorial complexes, places of military glory, and burial sites of soldiers and partisans from the Great Patriotic War. Dozens of locations throughout the region.
VITEBSK
Order was restored on the beach in Sokolniki. The spring awakening of nature required human hands. Today, a labor force from the Pervomaysky district of Vitebsk arrived at the beach of the picturesque village of Sokolniki. Employees of state organizations took an active part in the republican субботник to tidy up the favorite recreation spot for city residents and summer residents.
In the morning, work was in full swing on the shore: participants cleared the sand of last year's grass and glass, and collected large household waste left after the winter season.
"The republican субботник is a good tradition that unites people. The beach in Sokolniki is a focal point for all the surrounding villages. It is very pleasant to see that people have come with entire teams, with families, and are working with a sincere desire to make our common corner of nature cleaner," noted the event organizers.
Cleanliness, solidarity, and care for tomorrow
On April 18, the day of the republican субботник, the "Lyottsy" sanatorium united the trade unions of the Vitebsk region. Members of industry trade unions, together with the leadership of the Vitebsk Regional Trade Union Association, came out to clean the territory of one of the largest health resorts in the country. The labor force was led by the chairperson of the association, deputy of the regional council of deputies, Elena Nefedova.
The weather on the day of the community cleanup was sunny, and trade union activists enthusiastically got down to work. With rakes and brooms, they tidied up the territory where people from all over Belarus and abroad will soon be able to relax. It is important for the activists that the stay of vacationers in the sanatorium is comfortable at any time of the year. This year, "Lyottsy" is preparing to celebrate its 90th anniversary since its opening. For many Belarusians and guests of the country, the trade union health resort has become a symbol of quality rest and recuperation.
The area of the trade union sanatorium is several tens of hectares. Maintaining such a territory in order is not easy, so help from the trade union activists is always welcome here. The participants of the community cleanup tidied up the coastal zone, removed dry grass, leaves and branches, and prepared the beach for the season. The result of the collective labor was visible to the naked eye. The coastline literally transformed, regaining its well-groomed appearance.
Elena Nefedova, who led the community cleanup, noted:
— The result of the community cleanup is not just about cleanliness around. It is also an opportunity to feel the support of a colleague, to get to know those you work with better. And participation in a common cause is always about an active life position, trade union solidarity, and care for the future of our beloved country.
While some were tidying up the sanatorium, employees of the regional trade union association apparatus worked at their own premises. They painted the fence, raked last year's leaves in the inner courtyard, and carried out a general cleaning of the building.
The party activists of PSU named after P.M. Masherov are working together with employees of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus and border guards in the Verkhnedvinsk district.
At the "Soveyki" border post, a memorial alley has been established – trees have been planted, symbolizing the continuity of generations and care for the future.
Furthermore, large-scale work has been carried out at the Mound of Friendship (a memorial erected in memory of the joint struggle of partisans from Belarus, Russia, and Latvia during the Great Patriotic War). The adjacent territory has been landscaped here.
