Cannot be forgotten

Vasily Pashkovsky, Head of the Department of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office for Supervision of Compliance with Legislation by Criminal and Executive System Bodies and Enforcement Bodies, visited correctional institution of open type No. 10 in Vitebsk and, together with the administration of the institution, held a meeting with the convicted.

The prosecutor informed those present about the progress of the investigation into the criminal case initiated by the Prosecutor General regarding the genocide of the population of the BSSR during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period.

“The information obtained, including from eyewitnesses and archival documents, indicates large-scale atrocities committed by punitive forces. The destruction of settlements along with their inhabitants, torture of people, devastation, hunger, and death – this cannot be forgotten,” noted Vasily Pashkovsky, specifically dwelling on specific facts that have become known.

The representative of the supervisory authority, narrating the tragedy of the past, drew attention to the importance of drawing correct conclusions, learning lessons, and preventing the rewriting of history with the aim of distorting real events.

The prosecutor's offices of the Vitebsk region continue to work on investigating the criminal case of genocide and informing the public about its results.
