Dobromyslinskaya Secondary School of Liozno District was named after Hero of the Soviet Union Leonid Tikhmyanov
A significant event brought together schoolchildren, representatives of local authorities, and distinguished guests. A special place among them was occupied by Leonid Tikhmyanov's relatives – his niece Galina Gultyaeva, who arrived at the ceremony with her husband, son, and two grandchildren. From Velikiye Luki and Tula, where Leonid Pavlovich lived in recent years, they conveyed warm greetings to all local residents and words of gratitude for preserving the memory of the war years and for the attention paid to this issue in Belarus:
– We are grateful for the invitation to this event and for the memory you keep of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. For passing on the true history of World War II to the younger generation. This memory is sacred for all of us and for our future generations.
The importance of such events was emphasized by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev:
– Belarusians honor their history. For us, following the example of the exploits of our older generations is a high standard of morality, humanity, and patriotism. Therefore, it is very pleasant that this event is taking place during these significant days for the entire Vitebsk region. On June 25, Dubrovno celebrated the 78th anniversary of liberation from the Nazi invaders, and last weekend – Vitebsk, Shumilino, and Orsha. And so, throughout the week, the region will celebrate liberation from the fascist yoke. For our country to be free, and for us to be able to meet today under this peaceful sky, 409,000 soldiers and officers of the Red Army laid down their lives on the Vitebsk land. They rest in 1,543 military burial sites located in the northern region. The names of almost 200,000 of them remain unknown to this day, but work to restore them is ongoing.
The solemn rally continued within the school walls, where a museum room was opened. It was filled with military artifacts, exhibits, and photographs collected by the students. The event concluded at Tikhmyanovskaya Hill, where participants laid flowers and wreaths at the monument in memory of all fallen defenders of the Fatherland.
