Vitebsk region energy workers celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of RUP Vitebskenergo

Vitebsk region is considered the birthplace of the Belarusian power system. It was in this region in 1930 that the first major domestic power plant, the Belarusian State District Power Station (GRES), was built. The first power transmission lines were also constructed during this period. However, the very first industrial power plant appeared in Vitebsk back in 1898. It was intended to power the tramway and light the city center.

Over the years of formation and development of the Vitebsk power system, power plants have been built in Vitebsk, Orsha, Polotsk, and Novopolotsk.

Around the mid-1960s, Belarus began to experience a severe energy deficit, and it was necessary to increase capacity. A decision was then made to build a new power plant on the shore of the large Lukomlskoye Lake – the Lukomlskaya GRES. In December 1969, on Power Engineer's Day, the first 300 MW unit was successfully commissioned, which solved the electricity supply problem for the country's Northwestern region.

The official date of the creation of the Vitebsk power system is considered to be December 11, 1962, when, in accordance with Order No. 4 of the Main Directorate of Energy and Electrification under the Council of Ministers of the Belarusian SSR, the Regional Directorate of Energy and Electrification Vitebskenergo was established within the borders of our region.

Over the past 60 years, the Vitebsk region's power system has come a long way, becoming the foundation for the region's industrial development and fostering a cohesive team of professionals.

Representatives of all structural divisions, the enterprise's management, veterans, and people whose careers are linked to this vital industry – energy – gathered in the hall.

– It can be confidently stated that the traditions laid down decades ago continue to live on, remaining the foundation for the further development of the Vitebsk region's energy sector. Tremendous work has been done in the region over the past years: the reliability of electrical grids has been significantly increased, generating sources have undergone serious modernization, and new modern energy facilities have been put into operation.

The success of our enterprise undoubtedly owes a debt to the efforts of every employee. Both those present here today and those currently on duty at their workplaces. And, of course, our respected veterans, who, through their many years of dedicated work, created and shaped the current energy system.

The present time is challenging and responsible; we are operating under difficult economic conditions while planning to implement many significant projects. We have many important tasks ahead. May this momentous date become another stepping stone from which we can reach entirely new horizons of development! – addressed the attendees the General Director of RUP "Vitebskenergo" Andrey Panchenko, and thanked them for their honest, selfless work, competence, and responsibility.

In just 11 months of 2022, the enterprise's power sources generated over 10 billion kWh of electricity, of which 214 million kWh were produced at our "green" facilities – the Vitebsk and Polotsk Hydroelectric Power Plants.

– In life, there are benefits that we take for granted – warmth, light. When something happens, we begin to understand their great importance and remember the people who ensure comfort and coziness in our homes. They work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, demonstrating high professionalism and responsibility. On behalf of all residents of the region and government bodies, I want to express words of gratitude to all energy workers of Vitebsk region, – noted the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev.

The head of the parliamentary group read out a joint congratulatory address from the Regional Executive Committee and the Regional Council of Deputies and presented the Director of the "Energosbyt" branch, Vladimir Filippov, with an Honorary Diploma of the Regional Executive Committee.

Gratitude from the relevant ministry was announced to Kirill Matsarsky, Director of the Lukomlskaya GRES branch.

The honorary title of the State Production Association of Electric Power "Belenergo" "Honorary Worker of the Belarusian Power System" was awarded to Boris Volotkevich, a senior operator of the 7th category of the boiler and turbine shop of the Belarusian GRES branch.

A number of employees were awarded the honorary titles "Distinguished Worker of the Belarusian Power System" and "Veteran of the Belarusian Power System".
