How the opening concert of the 35th International Festival of Modern Choreography took place in Vitebsk
This once again proves that Vitebsk loves IFMC, anticipates meetings with companies that speak of eternal truths and the modern world through the language of plastic arts, rejoice, grieve, and reflect.
– This festival has become one of the most beautiful and brightest pearls in the festival life of the Vitebsk region, of all of Belarus. The participants who stand on this stage will present us with their creativity, share their ideas and thoughts, and glorify art. I want to wish everyone unforgettable emotions, new encounters, and inspiration, – noted the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin at the opening ceremony of the dance forum.
The First Deputy Minister of Culture of Belarus, Valery Gromada, read out a greeting from the Minister of Culture Anatoly Markevich.
The audience was able to get acquainted with the participants of the international competition, who took a bow in the prelude to the concert program, which this year was opened by the Leonid Jacobson St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre. The renowned troupe brought to Vitebsk the one-act ballet "Rodin," consisting of miniatures inspired by the works of the French impressionist sculptor Auguste Rodin, and a vibrant, mischievous production to the music of Rodion Shchedrin – "Mischievous Chastushkas."
The audience gave a standing ovation to the artists who came to the festival for the first time.
And tomorrow the competition program starts. This year, companies and performers from different corners of Belarus, Russia, and China will demonstrate their mastery of modern dance.
The jury is headed by People's Artist of Belarus, laureate of international competitions, ballet master-repetiteur of the National Academic Grand Opera and Ballet Theatre of Belarus, Konstantin Kuznetsov.
