Karpenko: signature collection in support of presidential candidate nominations is actively underway
The collection of signatures in support of the nomination of candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus is proceeding quite actively. This was stated to journalists by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The collection of signatures in support of the nomination of candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus continues in Belarus. Members of initiative groups are actively working in different parts of the country. Signatures are collected at pickets, as well as at the place of residence and work (service) of voters.
"For the Central Election Commission, this is probably the easiest moment in the election campaign – the collection of signatures, because the entire burden lies with the registered initiative groups. They collect signatures in various formats: through pickets, by visiting work collectives, by interacting with citizens in different formats. The process is proceeding, in our opinion, quite actively. We are, of course, observing this process," noted Igor Karpenko.
The voter must personally put the date of signature and sign the signature sheet. A voter also has the right to sign in support of several candidates proposed for nomination as President, but only once in support of the same candidate.
"I want to remind our voters that the specificity of the presidential election campaign is precisely that the nomination of candidates for President, unlike the single voting day, occurs exclusively in one way – by collecting citizens' signatures. At least 100,000 such signatures must be collected," emphasized the head of the Central Election Commission. "Signatures are submitted to territorial commissions, then the commissions conduct their verification, and decisions are made, which are sent to the Central Election Commission, where we summarize the overall results by the time of registration of presidential candidates. The groups are working, let's wish them success."
