A turkey meat production complex will appear in the Dubrovno district

A turkey meat production complex will soon appear in the village of Shabany, Dubrovensky district. Meanwhile, reconstruction is in full swing at the site of the former pig-breeding complex of PUP "Orshanskaya Poultry Farm". 5 out of 20 premises are already ready for the installation of necessary baby food, semi-finished products, sausage products, – noted the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin during a working trip to the Dubrovensky district. – And Shabany is one of the sites that we are repurposing and will produce turkey meat here. The product is dietary, healthy. We expect to receive 5-6 thousand tons of meat per year and process it in Orsha. All this is for the economic benefit of the Vitebsk region. To speed up the process, it may be necessary to attract credit resources.

The head of Orshanskaya Poultry Farm, Dmitry Venger, said that the complex was commissioned in 1989. The area of the industrial site is 20 hectares.

– It was designed for 24 thousand fattening pigs per year, – stated Dmitry Venger. – And it functioned successfully until 2014, when African swine fever reached us. Anti-epidemic measures lasted for more than a year, after which the complex started working. And again – African swine fever. Then the leadership of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee came to the conclusion that it needed to be repurposed. There were proposals to raise cattle here. But in the end, we decided to locate turkey production on the complex's premises. Out of 20 premises, 4 were allocated for breeders, and 16 for bird fattening. At this stage, the issue of purchasing equipment is being resolved.
