Lukomlskaya GRES will be modernized
The country's largest GRES was planned to be optimized and transferred to reserve mode after the launch of the Belarusian NPP, so that electricity generation could be replenished here during scheduled maintenance work at the nuclear power plant. "Despite the fact that one power unit is connected at the BelNPP, and the second is planned to be commissioned in 2023, the Lukomlskaya GRES still remains the flagship of Belarusian energy. It is the largest branch within the RUP Vitebskenergo system, employing about 1.6 thousand people. It is a powerful power plant that provides 30-35% of the country's total electricity. Both we and the management of the Ministry of Energy believe that the GRES should continue to develop, and systematic modernization will be carried out at the station. The team here is professional, and under no circumstances should it be lost. All units will operate. I see only prospects for this station," emphasized Andrey Panchenko.
"Our station is the closing one. What does it mean? If the NPP undergoes scheduled preventive maintenance, including gas turbine units, or an inspection involving foreign specialists, then the Lukomlskaya GRES connects its equipment to generate the electricity that was previously generated by the repaired equipment of the Belarusian NPP. Currently, we are building a peak reserve power source, which is a regulatory integration measure after the commissioning of the Belarusian NPP, and it is being carried out not only here but also at three other major sites - in Berez, Minsk, and Novopolotsk," shared Kirill Matsarsky, acting director of the Lukomlskaya GRES.
Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin, who visited the Lukomlskaya GRES for the first time, noted that the power plant impressed him. He familiarized himself with its operation, inquired about its prospects, and met with the enterprise's staff. "The purpose of my visit here is to familiarize myself with the Chashniki District, among other things. We are planning to hold the regional "Dazhynki" festival here in 2025 and make it unusual, involving two cities - Chashniki and Novolukoml. We also want to see where we will develop further, develop unified approaches and ways to improve here, and where we can grow. In the energy system of all of Belarus, the Lukomlskaya GRES is a significant component. This is my first time here, and the impressions of the facility are strong. The technologies here are both Soviet, quite powerful, and modern - with gas turbine units, where the efficiency is higher. I think industrial tourism can also be developed here," noted the head of the region.
At a meeting with the GRES staff, Alexander Subbotin discussed important issues that concerned local energy workers, spoke about plans for the Chashniki District, and outlined the main directions for the region's development as a whole.-0-
