More than 150 participants gathered in Vitebsk for the "Choosing a Student Squad" promotional project.
The republican promotional project was launched in the northern region at the Regional Institute for Educational Development. University and college students who can join student squads in the summer gathered here. Young people were invited to interactive platforms where fighters, commissars, and commanders of the squads that worked in 2023 presented their activities. Those interested filled out application forms for employment and viewed an exhibition of achievements.
"Not only students of Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov (VSU) can join our 'From Dawn Till Dusk' squad. We welcome anyone who is 18 years old to our squad. It currently has 18 people, and we plan to recruit up to 10 more guys," noted Valeria Krot, a third-year VSU student. "Young people who are interested in summer work gathered here at the meeting. They approach us, ask about the camps where we work. Perhaps they themselves attended this camp as campers in childhood, and now they have the opportunity to work as counselors. This evokes nostalgia for them, some pleasant memories."
Potential student squad members joined the activities offered at the interactive platforms. In particular, students from Vitebsk State Order of Peoples' Friendship Medical University (VSMU) conducted several master classes. They demonstrated to interested individuals how to properly apply bandages, measure blood pressure, showed surgical instruments, and much more.
Each person shared their personal experience in the student squad movement. Last year, Dmitry Kurets, now a fourth-year VSMU student, joined it for the first time as part of the "Heroes of Our Time" medical squad. "We were in Novopolotsk for the 'Medicus' republican medical labor project, working in a hospital. I would like to go this summer too. In general, student squad life offers many new acquaintances and opportunities not only within the country but also abroad. For example, students from Voronezh State Medical University named after N.N. Burdenko also worked with us," shared the student of the medical faculty.
Last year, as part of the studentx detachments involved about 6 thousand young people from the Vitebsk region. Every year, the figure changes depending on the number of facilities and positions offered by employers. "Close cooperation is maintained between the regional headquarters and executive authorities with employers and host organizations. If we are talking about a agricultural detachment, then the number is influenced by weather conditions, including the economy. We hope that everything will work out so that this year we will fulfill the 2023 plan and add more," noted Vladimir Babichev, First Secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Committee of the NGO "BRSM". "I am convinced that 2024 will be successful and the plans set by the Vitebsk Regional Headquarters of student detachments will be fully implemented. And the young people will be satisfied with the working summer, the wages offered by the employer. Most importantly, they will acquire new skills, make new acquaintances, and find comrades who will subsequently accompany them throughout their growth and formation in life."
The head of the BRSM regional committee explained that today medical university students can go to work as part of a service student detachment in a health resort. And teachers can work on construction sites as auxiliary workers and be involved in landscaping, greening, and so on. "Individual cases involve students from Polotsk State University, who are training to be engineers and builders, representing our region in republican projects that require specific professional skills (these are "Gomselmash", MAZ, construction in Ostrovets). There are projects like Khatyn or the patriotic center in Brest, where students from absolutely any university, regardless of their field of study, can go and work as auxiliary workers," explained Vladimir Babichev.
Meetings within the framework of the promotional project "We Choose a Student Detachment" will be held throughout the Vitebsk region from February to June.
