Polotsk cadets celebrated housewarming on Knowledge Day
"We are returning to our historical homeland, the Polotsk Cadet Corps was located here, the traditions of which were revived in 2006 when the modern cadet school was created. Our students know whose heritage they preserve, they are proud of the exploits of their predecessors and graduates of our school. One such example is Lieutenant Nikita Kukonenko, who, together with Major Andrei Nichiporchik, saved the residents of Baranovichi at the cost of his life and diverted the falling aircraft out of the city. Our museum has an exposition dedicated to the hero," said Stanislav Krasovsky, director of the Polotsk Cadet School.
The school now has a spacious academic building housing 12 classroom sets, specially equipped modern classrooms, and a dormitory for 300 people with a medical unit. The historical building, which housed the Polotsk Cadet Corps in the 19th century, now contains a cultural and educational block with a museum, a 300-seat assembly hall, a conference hall, choreography halls, and a spiritual and moral education office. Cadets have access to a military training center with equipped specialized classrooms, an electronic shooting range, and ranges for pneumatic and small-caliber weapons. Cadets will dine in a 300-seat canteen and a cafe. The school places great emphasis on physical training, as evidenced by numerous victories of Polotsk cadets in competitions. The students now have a sports complex that includes a spacious gymnasium, weight training and wrestling rooms, outdoor courts for team sports with artificial turf, and a gymnastics area. All ceremonial events and drill training will take place on a new parade ground covering 1800 sq.m. This year, 275 students will be enrolled in the school.
The cadets, who will live in comfortable conditions, have already managed to appreciate both the dormitory rooms and the adjacent sports grounds. Darya Dedushkevich travels to Polotsk for her studies from Novopolotsk and has only just begun to familiarize herself with the new buildings. Her cadet service is in its third year, and at the time, her entire family supported her choice of school. In the future, she dreams of dedicating her life to military service, and for now, she has time to decide on the field she will devote herself to. "When I first came to the cadet school, it was difficult, mostly physically, but now I've gotten into it, I'm used to it. I have an example – my uncle, who works in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He is very strict, collected, responsible, and I would like to be partly like him," the girl said.
Her friend Darya Filipptsova shared how the conditions in their new academic building have changed: "In the old dormitory, we had rooms for eight people, and now we live four to a room. The rooms are spacious, bright, everything is great. The sports grounds are also much larger than in the old building, and I feel our physical training will be more intensive. I haven't decided on a specialty yet, but my profession will definitely be related to the Armed Forces," the student shared.
Guests of the Polotsk cadets shared the joy of the new "residence" with the children and teachers on the festive day and, as tradition dictates, arrived with gifts. Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin presented a certificate for Br10,000 to the school principal.
"A new cycle of life, the academic year, begins today, which will bring you discoveries and friends. It is doubly joyful that we are on sacred land. The Polotsk Cadet Corps has been addressing the issues of training children, in the past - nobles, for state service, mainly military, for decades. The banner of the Polotsk Cadet Corps has been returned, which will turn 179 years old this year and is the oldest preserved to this day. This place is glorious with traditions. And now you, cadets, are the pride of Polotsk, the region, and the country. Dear guys, being a student of the Polotsk Cadet School is not only an honor but also a great responsibility. Multiply the glorious traditions of the school, remember your teachers, respect their work, maintain the love of your family and friends, believe in yourselves. Remain patriots of our country, responsible not only for your own destiny but also for the destiny of your native land," the head of the region congratulated the children on Knowledge Day. -0-
