From regional innovations to contemporary painting – such was the spectrum of interests of the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Natalya Kochanova, and her Russian counterpart, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko.
The speakers of the upper houses, along with the State Secretary of the Union State, Dmitry Mezentsev, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, and guests from Russia, visited the exhibitions "Belarus Intellectual" and the achievements of the national economy of the regions of Belarus and Russia today, which were presented at the XI Forum of Regions in Vitebsk.
However, before diving into the world of technology and innovations, the guests were reminded of the 1050-year history of the city on the Dvina River. A boat, Princess Olga, and the city's unique coat of arms, weighing half a ton – all this was shown to the guests by employees of the regional museum of local lore, who specially brought precious exhibits.
The governors of Smolensk and Pskov regions, Vasily Anokhin and Mikhail Vedernikov, demonstrated the achievements of their regions and spoke about joint projects with Belarusian partners, and then it was the turn of the Belarusians to impress.
Valentina Matvienko did not hide her interest in modern machine tools and even tried her hand as an operator of innovative equipment produced at the Gomel Plant of Machine Tools and Units. OJSC "Grodno Azot" also demonstrated its latest developments. Vitebsk manufacturers did not stand aside either. The "Vityaz" stand also attracted the guests' attention.
