Reconstruction work on the bridge over the Western Dvina in Novopolotsk has reached the home stretch
"Construction has been underway for just over a year, and today we discussed the progress of the work necessary to open traffic on the bridge," noted Aleksei Avramenko. "This includes waterproofing, the top layer of asphalt concrete pavement, and landscaping. As a result, we have determined that all major types of work here should be completed by the end of October. I believe the bridge will be a great gift to the residents of Novopolotsk."
The renovated bridge is made of metal. It will feature two main lanes for vehicle traffic, galvanized railings will be installed, and the roadway and sidewalks will be widened. Furthermore, observation decks will be added, offering views of the city.
The general contractor for the reconstruction of the facility is RUE "Vitebskavtodor," whose team was tasked with the significant goal of opening the bridge to traffic by the end of 2022. To this end, in conjunction with the general contractor OAO "Mostostroy" and other organizations, a work schedule was developed, which is currently being strictly adhered to.
The bridge over the Western Dvina is the only one in Novopolotsk. It provided quick access from the city to the republican highway and facilitated communication with the Borovukha and Mezherechye microdistricts. In June of last year, it was closed to traffic due to a number of defects affecting its load-bearing capacity and durability, which were identified during a structural inspection.
