The education sector of the Vitebsk region in numbers
According to the Main Statistical Department of the Vitebsk region, as of the beginning of the 2020/2021 academic year, there were:
- 5 higher education institutions with 24.8 thousand students;
- 33 secondary vocational education institutions (14.1 thousand students);
- 24 vocational-technical education institutions (9 thousand students);
- 369 general secondary education institutions (114.7 thousand students);
- 527 preschool education institutions (48.5 thousand children).
7.2 thousand pedagogical workers were employed in preschool education institutions.
The number of teachers in full-time general secondary education institutions is 13.2 thousand people.
On average, there were 9 students per teacher (10 students in urban schools, 4 in rural schools).
In 2020, 5.2 thousand people were admitted to higher education institutions, and 5.6 thousand specialists graduated; 4.8 thousand were admitted to secondary vocational education institutions and 4.4 thousand graduated; 4.0 thousand were admitted to vocational-technical education institutions and 3.7 thousand graduated, respectively.
In 2020, 35.7 thousand children were covered by additional education in the centers of the Vitebsk region, and 15.6 thousand children were covered by children's art schools.
