Creating amulets and feasting on pancakes on a well will be part of "Vyshyvanka Day" in Vitebsk
The "Day of Vyshyvanka" will be held in Vitebsk today, as reported to the correspondent of "SB" by Elena Chernykh, Director of the Cultural and Historical Complex "Golden Ring of the City of Vitebsk 'Dvina'".
Organizers invite everyone to take part in the events from 18:00 to 20:00. The rich program, specially scheduled for the evening for the convenience of guests and residents of the city, includes creative master classes on Belarusian family and everyday dances, making Belarusian "vytinanka" (paper cutouts), a competition for the best vyshyvanka among the holiday guests, and a creative relay race "Belarus - a source of inspiration".
In addition, in the Year of National Unity, all participants of the holiday will assemble a traditional Belarusian amulet – a straw "spider" – from small amulet elements. This is one of the oldest straw creations. "The master class will be conducted by Lyudmila Nikolaevna Vorobyova, a member of the Belarusian Craftsmen's Union and head of the 'Straw Weaving' club. She is a carrier of the element of historical and cultural value of intangible human creativity 'Belarusian straw weaving practices', which was included in the register of intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Belarus in 2020," noted Elena Chernykh.
Memorable moments of the holiday will include tasting pancakes cooked on a well and an excursion to the ethno-house. Getting acquainted with it will immerse visitors in the everyday life of antiquity, allow them to recall the revival of the history of pottery and majolica, trace the path of weaving from ancient times to the present day, and also see household items of our ancestors.
"The holiday is held for the fourth consecutive year and is designed to introduce visitors to the heritage of our ancestors, original Belarusian traditions, and to attract the interest of children and teenagers to this topic. Therefore, families with children and young people will be especially welcome guests," added Elena Chernykh.
