Ushachi agrarians have found their know-how to save time and money in preparation for sowing
To start preparations for the season earlier is a strategy chosen by Ushachi agrarians this year to conduct the spring sowing campaign promptly and with the highest quality. Even the state technical inspection in the district will not be held in March, as it was before, but at the end of winter. By a decision of the district executive committee, a schedule has been approved, according to which the commission will begin the inspection on February 20. One of this year's innovations is that complex repairs are carried out at special points where equipment from the entire region is concentrated. How this works in practice and what else saves time and money has been studied at Ushachi OJSC "Ilyushinsky".
We head to the mechanical yard with the enterprise director, Sergey Khalimonenko. A mineral fertilizer spreader is being repaired here, and an "Amkodor" is also under repair: this unit has not stood idle for a single day, so there was a need to put the hydraulic system in order. Energy-intensive equipment is stored under a canopy repaired several years ago. Sergey Anatolyevich demonstrates a freshly painted seeder and asks us to assess its age. We could not answer correctly because it looks almost brand new.
— In fact, the wear of this unit is about 100 percent, — the manager reveals the details. — We sent it for major overhaul to the Vitebsk Motor Repair Plant, and as a result, we received an almost new unit. At the same time, they returned the old parts to us: we can hand them over and fulfill the plan for scrap metal procurement. The economics are very profitable: buying a new one costs 160 thousand rubles, a major overhaul is about 120 thousand.
In addition to the motor repair plant, the farm also cooperates with OJSC "Zapadno-Dvin MSM" and "AMKODOR-Vitebsk", sending equipment for repair, including equipment with over 80 percent wear. The chief engineer of "Ilyushinsky", Andrey Pyatnitsa, adds that since the farm submitted its applications as one of the first in the region, the major overhaul of their MTZ-3522 has already been completed. Imported engines, which today cost about 28 thousand rubles, are being replaced here with a YMZ analogue costing 12 thousand — it is more reliable and cost-effective. The enterprise also sent two engines from decommissioned KZS-1218 harvesters to the plant; they will be repaired and re-equipped for installation on energy-intensive equipment.tractor. This service appeared not so long ago and has interested agrarians of many agricultural organizations in the region.
— Timely repair will allow us to start field work within optimal deadlines, — notes the young specialist. — At the beginning of the season, we usually organize two-shift work. We involve employees of the Ushachi forestry enterprise for assistance. In general, a strong core of machine operators has been formed. We try to send them on vacation between the end of autumn field work and the end of January. Last year, two people received new categories for working as machine operators at the Ushachi training center in our areas.
Taking the opportunity, I ask the young man what conditions were provided to him at his first workplace. It turned out that he is very pleased: the agricultural enterprise provided him with a separate house. In total, 15 young specialists came to the enterprise last year, including a lawyer, an economist, and an engineer.

The farm has serious plans for the spring. And first of all, to sow more corn: not 330, but 400 hectares. For the first time, they plan to allocate up to 100 hectares for alfalfa to provide livestock with quality forage.

About 500 thousand rubles have been allocated from the district budget for the needs of agrarians (for repairs, purchase of compound feed for calves and molasses). Farmers in the district sent 14 units of equipment to Zapadno-Dvinysky MRS OJSC, Vitebsk Motor Repair Plant OJSC, and AMKODOR-Vitebsk OJSC. Out of 77 tractors, 70 are already operational, which is 91 percent of the total number. 12 out of 15 high-power tractors are in operation, the rest are under repair. Of the 19 plows, 15 are fully ready for spring.
— We started work a month earlier than in 2023, so the results are quite good, — assesses Yulia Mikhailovna.on. — About 30 percent are repaired at specialized points in Vitebsk, and soil-cultivating units — by 70 percent. We distribute funds evenly among agricultural organizations, helping everyone. We hope to be able to go out into the field on time. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food has set the task of ensuring 100% readiness of equipment in the second half of March.
