A solemn meeting was held at the Vitebsk Concert Hall on the occasion of the 89th anniversary of VGMU
The solemn event was attended by the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Head of the Main Department for Healthcare of the Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Kasperovich, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk City Council of Deputies Vladimir Belevich, Chairman of the industry trade union Vladimir Plytkevich, and other distinguished guests.
– Thank you very much for your titanic work, for what you do for everyone who becomes your patient. Thank you for your dedication, care, and professionalism, – Vladimir Terentyev addressed the audience. – It is also highly valuable that you are multifaceted, talented people, and your creative teams bring great pleasure to audiences at various levels of concerts. VSMU is a unique university, which attracts unique people who understand from childhood what they want in life and choose the difficult profession of a medic, knowing how demanding it is, requiring self-dedication, right from the student bench. After all, not only the health but also the life of a person depends on the specialist you become.
– Another reason for joy is the birthday of our university, – Rector of VGMU Alexey Chukanov noted in an interview. – The trend of recent years is an increase in foreign students who come to study in Belarus and specifically in VGMU. We are not for nothing called the "Friendship of Peoples" university, because a friendly family is truly being created at the university – students from more than 50 countries study here, which indicates that we have truly high-quality Belarusian medical education, for which people come from afar – from African and Asian countries, the Chinese vector is opening up, cooperation with India, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia is expanding. We look to the future with confidence, emphasizing that all this is the achievement of our faculty. They are not just recognized specialists in domestic medicine, but undoubtedly world-class specialists, whom people come to for knowledge, skills, including in matters of healthcare organization. This was once again confirmed by the visit of the Uzbek delegation, which visited VGMU as part of the international medical forum. Rectors of universities and heads of Uzbek medical colleges are delighted with the organization of healthcare in Belarus. But the most important thing in medicine is not equipment, but people. Without exaggeration, I can say that we are training the specialists of tomorrow. After all, even today we must give students the knowledge they will need to work with tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, which are ahead of their time.
Within the framework of the forum, VGMU signed several agreements on the creation of new educational programs jointly with Uzbek colleagues in residency and clinical residency, Alexey Chukanov reported. They are related to the training and exchange of faculty, and the training of Uzbek specialists at the Faculty of Advanced Training of VGMU.
– Our teachers will travel to Uzbekistan and train their faculty. This is great, and it can be a source of pride, – noted the Rector of VGMU.
A number of university employees were awarded honorary diplomas from the regional Council of Deputies, the main department for healthcare, the city executive committee, and received letters of gratitude from the chairman of the city executive committee, awards from the Belarusian Trade Union of Healthcare Workers, and UP "Farmatsiya" on this day.
A festive concert, prepared by the creative teams of VSMU, took place.
