Novopolotsk celebrated the 10th anniversary of the City Parliament of Children and Youth
A significant ceremony of transferring the key of knowledge and a message to the future to the members of the Parliament of 2032 took place at the Museum of History and Culture of Novopolotsk. The key of knowledge was handed over to the chairman of the parliament of children and youth, Anton Vorobey, by the chairman of the regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev.
The celebrations continued at the "Khimik" ice hockey club, where Vladimir Terentyev read out to the event participants a welcome address from the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Natalya Kochanova, who was one of the initiators of youth parliamentarism in Novopolotsk.
Novopolotsk was one of the first in the country to join the UN global initiative "City Friendly to Children and Adolescents" – on June 11, 2011. Soon, a parliament of children and students was established. It united boys and girls from grades 9-11 of Novopolotsk schools and secondary vocational institutions. Over the years, the parliament has been updated more than once, with leaders and heads changing. Today, the body of youth self-government consists of 28 active young men and women.
The children themselves choose their chairperson, who must not only possess leadership qualities, be able to lead others with a bright idea, be a friend and comrade. And most importantly, they must have a clear program and ideas for improving the lives of the city's youth.
For many years, the curator of the children has been the deputy director of the Palace of Children and Youth, Alla Yanulenok. The young parliamentarians boldly implement many interesting ideas, organize charity events, establish contacts with representatives of the city authorities and international organizations, parliaments of other cities and countries, and participate in all significant city events.
