The regional executive committee discussed the state and prospects of physical culture development in the Vitebsk region
As noted in his report by Vasily Zakharevich, Head of the Department of Sports and Tourism of the Regional Executive Committee, according to data for the first 9 months of this year, the number of people engaged in physical culture and sports in the Vitebsk region reached 291,000 people (26.3% of the total population). For comparison, in 2022, these figures were 287,000 (26.01%).
- The material and technical base of the industry is dynamically developing, - noted Vasily Zakharevich. - New sports facilities are opened every year. For example, a swimming pool is being built in Lepel, and it is planned to be commissioned at the beginning of next year. There are plans to build a multifunctional sports complex in the Bilevo microdistrict of Vitebsk. It will feature halls for team sports and a 50-meter swimming pool. Everything will comply with international standards for holding international competitions. The design work is planned to be completed in February. In general, the task is to have a physical culture and recreation complex in every district of the Dvina region.
In addition, the region has 39 bicycle paths and over forty bicycle rental stations.
As emphasized by Vadim Arzhanovich, Director of the Regional Educational and Methodological Center for Physical Education of the Population, physical education begins at the earliest age. Numerous sports events are held annually, including for children in summer camps. The organization of such competitions and campaigns is of paramount importance for the re-education of adolescents who are under various types of supervision.
And to further encourage adults to adopt a healthy lifestyle, work is carried out annually to create physical culture and sports clubs in organizations and enterprises. Material incentives for employees who lead a healthy lifestyle are of great importance. A prime example of such work is the enterprise "Vitebskoblgaz".
