The regional festival-fair of agricultural workers "Dazhynki - 2021" was held in Shumilino
Delegations from the regions of the Dvina region, as well as honored guests from Minsk, gathered in the district center located between Vitebsk and Polotsk. The official part began with laying flowers at the military burial site on the renovated Alley of Glory. For the liberation of the Shumilino region during the Great Patriotic War, 11.8 thousand Red Army soldiers died, and 106 people were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Traditionally, dozens of facilities are renovated in the capital of "Dazhynki". In particular, Secondary School No. 1 named after P. Akutsyonok, thanks to modernization and modern equipment, has joined the list of "schools of the future". The renovated stadium hosted the first competitions – the regional Spartakiad in strength all-around. The strongmen of the Vitebsk region competed in kettlebell lifting, bench press, pull-ups and push-ups, as well as flipping a tractor tire. The best result was shown by the team from Senno, consisting of Dmitry Abakumov and Maxim Yanukov; representatives of the Glubokoye and Verkhnedvinsk districts were among the top three prize-winners.
To the delight of the creative people of Shumilino District, the district culture center has undergone major repairs. More than 250 people hone their talents here. Among the 20 groups, six have the title of "People's," and one has the title of "Exemplary."
In total, over a hundred facilities in the district center have been given a second life. These include: four kindergartens, Secondary School No. 2, a clinical diagnostic laboratory, a polyclinic, a children's and youth sports school of the Olympic reserve, a centralized library system, and a historical and local lore museum. Over 40 multi-story buildings have been covered by major and current repairs. The central park and main streets have been radically transformed in appearance.
The result of the preparations for "Dazhynki" has been the increased involvement of previously unused premises and buildings in economic circulation. Investors are buying them. New jobs are being created, and taxes are flowing into the local budget.
What has been done will remain for the people for years to come. The transformation of Shumilino District will continue – this is the practice.
Glory to the Frontrunners
One of the highlights of the celebration was the procession of field workers along the central street of Shumilino. Delegations from the regions were greeted by hundreds of residents and guests of the district center.
At the solemn award ceremony, the Aide to the President of Belarus, Valery Belsky, read out a congratulatory address from Alexander Lukashenko. It stated that the Vitebsk region had always been famous for its nature, but was a difficult region for farmers. Nevertheless, every year, the villagers achieve worthy results in many areas through hard work. The Head of State wished the crop growers success in tackling all the tasks facing the Vitebsk region's agro-industrial complex.
Congratulating the winners, the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, noted that the current agricultural season for the northern region, as well as for the entire country, was not the most favorable. Anomalous heat led to a shortfall in the harvest. In recent years, nature has been presenting unpleasant surprises. Therefore, it is necessary to draw conclusions and restructure the work of the crop production sector, taking into account the maximum possible mitigation of the impact of weather conditions on production processes. At the same time, it is necessary to avoid the overlapping of agricultural work, ensuring the timely technical re-equipment as a mandatory requirement.
Nikolay Sherstnev outlined several programmatic points. First of all, it is necessary to maximize the areas for winter cereals and cruciferous crops – rapeseed and colza. Part of the crops intended for fodder grain for cattle, without bringing them to harvest ripeness, should be harvested for grain silage. This eliminates the costs of drying, processing, and storing grain, and reduces the load on the combine. The advantages and economic efficiency of this direction are undeniable.
In addition, by increasing the sown areas of winter barley and colza, crops with earlier ripening periods, there is an opportunity to shift the start of harvesting from August to July. At the same time, it is necessary to reduce the areas under spring rapeseed, the threshing of which, as a rule, is delayed and extends into September.
Professionalism, competent labor organization, maximum utilization of energy-intensive equipment, and its use in the main types of work in a two-shift mode are also important.
Soil cultivation in one pass with appropriate equipment, as well as the selection of agricultural crops, strict adherence to crop rotation, and compliance with a number of other requirements should become the norm. Only in this case can field work be carried out twice as fast and with higher quality. Advanced agricultural enterprises of the Vitebsk region have already done a lot in this direction and are achieving decent yields, regardless of the weather. "Larinovka" of the Orsha district (75.4 c/ha), Tolochin Cannery (48.9 c/ha), "MazolovoGaz" UP "Vitebskoblgaz" (45.9 c/ha), "Shaiterovo" of the Verkhnedvinsk district (42.5 c/ha), "Goryany-Agro" of the Polotsk district (42.1 c/ha). "Vitebsk Broiler Poultry Farm" provided a gross harvest of over 50.3 thousand tons, surpassing sixteen districts of the region in this indicator.
The festival relay was taken over by Glubokoye, where "Dazhynki-2022" will be held.
