The festive ceremony began with the solemn carrying of the Banner and Standard of the Department of Internal Affairs to the sounds of the Preobrazhensky Regiment march. After that, the attendees honored with a minute of silence the memory of the police officers who died in the line of duty, and laid wreaths and flowers at the foot of the memorial.
Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin addressed the participants of the solemn ceremony:
- Please accept my sincere congratulations on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the Vitebsk regional militia. Over time, it has changed its name – from the people's guard and the Soviet workers' and peasants' militia to the militia of the Republic of Belarus, but its main tasks have always been and remain the protection of law and order, ensuring legality, and protecting our citizens. Today, you face large-scale and challenging tasks: ensuring public safety and countering terrorism, protecting the economy from criminal pressure, and fighting corruption, the successful resolution of which directly depends on the clarity and coordination of actions of different units, the ability to make informed decisions, and competently analyze the situation. The most objective assessment of the activities of law enforcement officers is the trust of citizens, which can only be earned by impeccable performance of official duties, which you demonstrate daily to the residents and guests of our region.
– The militia of the Vitebsk region has gone through a difficult path of development and today remains one of the main pillars of state power, the primary tool for combating crime, ensuring public safety, and protecting the rights and legitimate interests of citizens. The history of the Vitebsk militia has many heroic pages: at different times, our compatriots conscientiously and selflessly ensured law and order, many of them gave their lives, remaining faithful to their oath and officer's duty until the end. We are successors to the best traditions passed down to us by veterans of the internal affairs bodies – they are still in service today and are ready to assist in solving crimes, training, and educating young employees. Over the past few years, there has been a trend of decreasing crime rates in the Vitebsk region, which is the lowest in our country. The internal affairs bodies of the Vitebsk region hold leading positions in the Republic of Belarus, which once again speaks to the professionalism of our employees, – emphasized Andrey Lyubimov in his address to those present.
In a solemn ceremony, to the sounds of fanfares, employees of the internal affairs bodies of Vitebsk region were awarded medals "For Impeccable Service" of the II and III degrees, badges, were granted next special ranks, received commendations on behalf of the Minister and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, and were presented with honorary and commemorative certificates from the Department of Internal Affairs and the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
