Vitebsk lights up the main Christmas tree of the region
Half an hour before the "Let's Light the Tree Together" event began, a considerable crowd had gathered on Victory Square. The abundance of Ded Morozes, Snegurochkas, Kikimoras, and other fairy-tale characters was striking in the crowd. Thanks to their presence, everyone who came to the celebration was immediately immersed in the atmosphere of a New Year's fairy tale.

- The main goal of this event is to give positive emotions to the city and its residents, - Gleb Lapitsky, General Director of the Vitebsk Culture Center, told "VV". - It is gratifying that many people in our city wanted to transform into wizards for a moment.

During the event on Victory Square, a show program organized by the "Vitebsk Culture Center" took place. It featured local amateur creative groups and athletes. For the first time in such celebrations, part of the program was held on an ice rink set up around the Christmas tree.
The event organizers did not keep the audience waiting long: in less than half an hour, Santa Claus and his helpers lit the Christmas tree.

After that, a disco with interactive contests began on Victory Square. Spectators were required to correctly and before others answer questions related to the music being played. Answers were to be sent to the Instagram account of the "Vitebsk Culture Center". Winners were awarded gifts: treats, cash certificates ranging from 100 to 300 rubles, and tickets to the city's new attraction - the Ferris wheel. While some of those gathered for the celebration danced at the disco and participated in contests, others skated.

- This is my first time at such a celebration, I didn't expect it to be so much fun, - says Alina Chaplina, a fifth-year student at Vitebsk State Medical University. - I really liked the interesting contests with prizes. I answered the questions correctly, but I wasn't the first, so I couldn't win. But I wasn't particularly upset, the main thing is that I had a great time with my friends!
Marina Fedorova, a mother of two, is a frequent guest at city-wide events, including New Year's promotions.
- The year has been tough due to the pandemic, - says the young woman. - And such events greatly brighten the situation and bring positive emotions. New Year is one of our favorite holidays. It's the anticipation of a miracle, the fulfillment of wishes. It's pleasing that in Vitebsk, the organizers of this event try to surprise with something new every year.
