In the Vitebsk region, the number of hospitalizations with COVID-19 is decreasing
The peak of hospitalized patients in healthcare facilities of the Vitebsk region during previous waves was 3.5 thousand people. The region overcame this threshold on October 10-11. "As of today, this is 300 people higher in the region as a whole than then. Recently, a trend of decreasing incidence has emerged: if before October 10, the increase reached 200-300 and even 400 people per day on some days, then the previous week showed 30-50 people. After the weekend, when statistics are for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, it was 100. We can cautiously say that the virus is starting to lose ground. This week and the next will be decisive," said Nikolai Sherstnev.
He stressed that the main way to avoid severe or fatal cases after coronavirus infection is vaccination. Self-protection (masks, distancing) are self-evident measures.
As reported, as of October 15, more than 11.6 thousand beds were allocated for COVID-19 patients in hospitals in the Vitebsk region. All medical workers are working with increased load. Patients who cannot be managed in the district are transferred to the regional level. 84% of oxygen points out of the total number are in use in the region's healthcare facilities. Vaccinated people get sick, but in the region, this accounts for 2-3% of all hospitalized patients. Only a few patients end up in intensive care, and they do not reach ventilators or fatal outcomes.
