In the Vitebsk region, it is planned to admit up to 50% of students under target contracts from the total enrollment

The target contract enrollment rate in universities and colleges in the Vitebsk region is planned to be increased to 50% of the total intake and above. This was reported by the Vitebsk Regional Educational and Methodological Center for Vocational Education (VREMCOVE).

"Signing target contracts is a safety net for enterprises. This way, organizations ensure a workforce inflow, which is highly relevant now. An employer signs a contract and knows that specialists of a specific level will come to them in a year, two, or three. In 2022, during the admission campaign in the region, 1403 contracts for targeted training were concluded – for secondary vocational education, as well as for vocational-technical and higher education. The region is almost reaching the 50% mark of the total enrollment for target contracts. We are striving for 50% and more," noted VREMCOVE, adding that in August last year, an improved regulation on the targeted training of specialists, workers, and employees was issued, approved by Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 572.

Enterprises are not yet signing target contracts very willingly. Agricultural organizations of the Vitebsk region, footwear and garment enterprises, and machine-building enterprises are more active in this regard. Both state-owned and private ones. Employers are informed about the nuances of this form of ordering and its benefits, and separate explanatory work is carried out with the parents of applicants.

In the districts and the regional center, target training fairs will continue to be held, where representatives of organizations – employers – meet with employees of educational institutions and school graduates, and students of colleges and universities demonstrate their specialties. Most often, such meetings are organized in Sharkovshchyna, Orsha, Gorodok, Polotsk districts, and the Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk.

"Business leaders are beginning to understand that they must also be involved in personnel training, take care of recruiting specialists in advance, and talk about ongoing modernization and modern workplaces. After all, these are no longer the old enterprises where the parents of today's youth worked 20 years ago and more, but modern machinery and equipment," the center explained. "Working conditions are already different, and bonuses are offered for employees, for example, transportation is organized or rental housing is provided. Organizations are starting to involve schools themselves, conducting excursions for students to production facilities."

The next targeted training fairs, according to the OUAMC PO, are scheduled for April and May.
