The regional commission for holding the referendum has been approved in the Vitebsk region
At a joint meeting of the Presidium of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the Regional Council of Deputies, a regional commission for conducting the referendum was approved, consisting of 13 people. 26 territorial commissions will be created in the Vitebsk region.
According to Decree of the President No. 24 of January 20 of the current year, a referendum on amending the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is scheduled for February 27. This important event in our society is held in the Year of Historical Memory, the formation of an objective attitude of society towards the historical past, the preservation and strengthening of the unity of the Belarusian people, emphasized the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev at the meeting, referring to the words of the President: "The loss of the image of the heroic past leads the state to catastrophe and deprives the people of the future. It is important to cherish the memory of the people, historical truth, and not to allow falsification of fateful events."
An important stage in the preparation and conduct of the referendum on amending and supplementing the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is the establishment of territorial commissions. In accordance with the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus, these formations organize the conduct of the referendum, exercise control over compliance with the current legislation on conducting the referendum in their assigned territory, and perform a number of other powers within the framework of the law.
A total of 26 territorial commissions are planned to be formed in the Vitebsk region, including 1 regional commission, 21 district commissions, 1 city commission in Novopolotsk, and 3 district commissions in Vitebsk. The nomination of individuals to the commissions concluded on January 22, with 340 people nominated. Of these, 195 candidates were nominated by political parties and other public associations, including 15 from political parties, 21 from labor collectives, and 124 by citizens through signature collection and applications. Among the parties, the Communist Party of Belarus showed the greatest activity, nominating 13 representatives. Among public associations, the leaders are the Federation of Trade Unions, from which 62 people were elected, "Belaya Rus" - 26, BRSM - 23, and the public association of veterans - 22.
At a joint meeting, the regional commission was formed, consisting of 13 members. The right to nominate was exercised by political parties, other public associations, and citizens by submitting applications. 10 people were nominated by political parties and other public associations, including two people from the Communist and Liberal Democratic Parties, one representative each from "Belaya Rus", BRSM, the Belarusian Women's Union, the Peace Fund, the public association of veterans, the Belarusian Union of Afghan War Veterans, the trade union of agricultural workers, and the trade union of workers in culture, information, sports, and tourism. 3 people were nominated by citizens through applications. Labor collectives did not nominate any candidates.
The head of the deputy corps reminded that the regional commission is endowed with a wide range of powers. Therefore, individuals included in its composition must possess the business and personal qualities that allow for the full functioning of the commission. Open voting was held for each candidate.
The presidium meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin, Presidential Aide – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Anatoly Linevich. The head of the region noted the need to provide methodological assistance and legal support for the commission's work and instructed the relevant services to assist in this.
