The remains of 15 soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War have been reburied near the village of Vishni in the Liozno district.
The remains of the soldiers and accompanying items of equipment and ammunition were discovered during search operations in the territory of the Babinovichsky Village Council by the 52nd specialized search battalion of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, together with members of search associations. Unfortunately, it was not possible to establish the names of the soldiers.
To honor the memory of the fallen, representatives of regional and district authorities, searchers, representatives of public associations, enterprises, schoolchildren, and local residents gathered at the military burial site No. 4359.
– For more than 80 years, our country has lived under peaceful, clear skies. But every generation of Belarusians remembers and will always remember the price at which we gained peace and the Great Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. This is millions of young lives of soldiers who bravely stood up to defend the Motherland. From generation to generation, the historical truth is passed down about the horrors that the fascist occupation brought to our people. How much suffering, grief, tears, and blood were shed on our land! And the feat of Soviet soldiers, Red Army soldiers, is all the more magnificent, – noted the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Dmitry Demidov. – Today, we are reburying the remains of 15 Red Army soldiers who fought for our freedom and life here in the Liozno district. Young men spared no effort for the sake of victory over the cursed enemy, for the sake of us being able to live, raise children, and educate them in a free and independent country. Preserving historical memory and perpetuating the memory of heroes is one of the key foundations of our country's state policy. We must continue the work of searching for the remains and identifying the names of the fallen. Unfortunately, we do not know who these 15 Red Army soldiers were, what their names were, or where they were drafted from. But we know for sure that they fulfilled their duty to the end, fought and died with honor, doing everything to bring the long-awaited Victory closer. Today they are returning from battle, finding peace in a mass grave. And the work of searching for unknown heroes and perpetuating their memory will continue.
The head of the parliamentary corps expressed words of gratitude to all who participated in the search work: searchers, public associations, and servicemen. He also noted that, unlike Western countries and Ukraine, which are currently at war with historical memory, trying to destroy the truth about the feat of Soviet soldiers, Belarusians honor and pass on the memory from generation to generation.
The participants of the event honored the memory of the fallen with a minute of silence and laid wreaths and flowers at the mass grave.
