Vitebsk region joined the republican campaign «Detector in every home»
During the campaign, the work of inspection commissions will be intensified with the involvement of all interested prevention entities. Individual prevention will be carried out for the installation of autonomous fire alarms and checking their operability in the homes of lonely and single citizens, large families, and other target audience representatives of the campaign.
Most fires in apartments and private homes occur precisely when a person is asleep: in their sleep, they do not smell smoke, therefore they become most vulnerable and cannot quickly react to the situation. Practice shows that in homes equipped with autonomous fire alarms, the safety level of the people living in them increases many times over. In 2020 alone, in the Vitebsk region, 24 people, including 3 children, were saved thanks to the activation of autonomous fire alarms. This year, 27 people have already been saved, including 5 children.
One of the rescues occurred on the morning of February 21 this year on Frantsiska Skoriny Street in the city of Polotsk. At the time of the fire, the father and three children were in the apartment – sleeping, and the mother had gone to work. Hearing the sound of the activated autonomous fire alarm, the eldest daughter and the father discovered a computer fire in the room where the children were. Waking the younger ones, the whole family safely left the dwelling, the man turned off the electricity and tried to extinguish the fire himself, but due to heavy smoke, this was impossible. The fire was extinguished by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations; due to the fire, the walls in the apartment were smoked, and property was damaged. The cause of the fire is a violation of the rules for operating electrical networks and electrical equipment.
We believe that additional arguments for the necessity of installing an autonomous fire alarm are simply not required. And you must agree that its cost, which is just over 10 rubles, is incomparable to the price of the consequences that fires lead to, destroying
property accumulated over the years, and sometimes, taking human lives.
And the installation of the detector does not require special knowledge and skills. The kit includes detailed instructions containing all the necessary information on installation, design, and operating rules. It is recommended to install the detector in the central part of the ceiling with a slight offset towards the window or door – where constant air exchange is ensured. The most successful solution may be to connect the detectors into a single network with neighboring houses or apartments or to output the detector signal to a light and sound device located on the facade of the house. If the owners of the house where the fire occurred do not react to the signal, passers-by or neighbors will raise the alarm, who will have the detector triggered simultaneously.
