Vitebsk region is accelerating the pace of sowing early grain crops
Belarusian farmers have sown 655 thousand hectares of early spring grain and leguminous crops, or 88.9 percent of the plan. Brest, Gomel, Grodno, and Minsk regions have completed early sowing. 73.9 percent of the planned areas are sown in the Mogilev region.
Vitebsk region has significantly accelerated the pace of fieldwork, where early sowing is completed by 6-7 percent closer each day. This is about 9 thousand hectares per day. Although technical capabilities allow for an increase of 11 thousand hectares, noted Sergey Egorov, Chairman of the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee:
– The weather has given us the opportunity to expand as much as possible. Miory district is in the lead, with less than one and a half thousand hectares left, at the current pace of work for five days. Verkhnedvinsk district needs to sow one thousand six hundred hectares to reach the finish line. Polotsk district is doing well and can manage in five days. The best farms are finishing and moving on to help those who are lagging behind. In the agro-industrial association, mechanized detachments work not only in their own district but also in others. Technically, our situation has even improved. At the end of last year, 350 tractors arrived. Funds were allocated from the regional budget for the repair of soil-cultivating and sowing units. Farms repaired equipment at their own expense at the Vitebsk Motor Repair Plant – about 30 seeders and cultivators became like new.
As the chairman reported, about 6 thousand units of equipment are involved in spring fieldwork, including 1.2 thousand energy-intensive units. More than 600 machine operators from cities and district centers, and over 270 students and pupils from specialized educational institutions are assisting rural residents. Now, it is necessary to sow 152 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops, 35 thousand hectares of rapeseed, 12 thousand hectares of flax, and 100 thousand hectares of corn (20 thousand traditionally for grain). Farms are 100 percent provided with seeds of grain and leguminous crops. Groups of specialists have been created to provide practical assistance to agricultural enterprises and control technological processes. All districts have already started sowing spring rapeseed and flax. For most of the area
