Vitebsk Regional Center for Correctional and Developmental Education and Rehabilitation received 50 thousand rubles for equipment for a mobile resource room
The meeting was attended by Vyacheslav Durnov, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Dmitry Khoma, Head of the Main Department for Education of the Regional Executive Committee, representatives of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Belarus, and Priorbank OJSC.
A speech therapist's "smart mirror," noise-canceling headphones, communicators, magnifiers, simulators, standing frames, and play kits – all of these will be equipped in the mobile resource room, which can travel to where it is most needed. It will assist specialists, parents, and guardians in the process of recovery and full development of children with disabilities and other impairments that complicate life and integration into society. As a result, boys and girls from different parts of the Dvina region will have more opportunities to learn something, master important actions, and skills.
— Today, we are looking for new approaches, techniques, and forms of work using modern equipment for a higher quality assessment of the situation and assistance to families with children with disabilities, — explained Marina Fedorova, Director of the Regional Center for Correctional and Developmental Education and Rehabilitation.
The investment in assistive and rehabilitation equipment amounted to 50 thousand Belarusian rubles. The equipment for the mobile resource room was purchased within the framework of the humanitarian project "Prevention of Institutionalization and Deinstitutionalization of Young Children and Children with Disabilities in the Vitebsk Region" and its program "A Family for Every Child," which is implemented jointly with the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) with the financial support of Priorbank OJSC and Raiffeisen-Leasing LLC, as well as thanks to voluntary donations. This is a very significant initiative – it is aimed at helping children with disabilities living in boarding schools to return to their parents or find a new family, promoting the development of alternative forms of placement for minors, and ideally, minimizing the number of children ending up in institutional facilities. After all, growing up at home, with loving and caring adults nearby, is always better – it is unlikely anyone would argue with that.
— There are quite a lot of children with disabilities and developmental disorders in our region, — noted Vyacheslav Durnov. — They require special care and specific work with them. Today, we saw how our children skillfully performed their creative numbers. It is very important to find the unique spark in each child and develop their abilities. And, of course, the new equipment will help with this – to identify children's difficulties and problems at an early stage, to see what support is needed for families raising such a child.
Vyacheslav Durnov emphasized: a great advantage of the new resource room is its mobility.
— Not all parents have the opportunity to bring their children here, to the center for correctional and developmental education and rehabilitation. But now specialists will be able to visit people directly in their districts, — he specified.
Rustam Khaydarov, the UNICEF Representative in Belarus, expressed confidence that the implementation of the "A Family for Every Child" program in the Vitebsk region will yield good results in the very near future. He stated that cooperation aimed at the full integration of children with disabilities into society will continue. Speaking of specific measures, the region plans to install two inclusive playgrounds – in Vitebsk and Polotsk. This will allow boys and girls to play together regardless of their health conditions.
